School Uniforms

Uniform Guidelines

GIRLS

Tops:  White, red, navy or light blue polo shirts with no more than 3 buttons (no zipper, snap or tie closings) or white or light blue oxford shirts. Shirttails must be long enough to tuck in. No fitted shirts w/ short cap sleeves or multiple buttons will be worn. The approved school uniform t-shirt may be worn daily.  All other spirit shirts can only be worn on Fridays or with specific approval by administration.

Bottoms:   Navy or khaki pants, Capri pants, shorts, skorts are the only approved bottoms for girls. No knit pants or hip-huggers are permitted. No slits at the bottom. Pants and shorts must have belt loops. Belts are required. No corduroy or knit fabric allowed.  No writing may be on pants/shorts or shirts.

BOYS

Uniform Length

Skirts, skorts, or jumpers should be the same length as the shorts.  The administration will use discretion as to whether shorts are an appropriate length.  Pants must not drag on the floor in a manner that mutilates or destroys the pants by stepping or tripping on them. Pants may not be rolled up to calf length or rolled tight around the ankle.  Shorts may not be rolled up.  Pants may not be tucked into shoes or boots at any time.

Spirit Days

Spirit days will be allowed at Greenacres Middle School at the administrators’ discretion. Any spirit activity “designated spirit uniform” may be worn in place of the regular school uniform. Example: cheerleader uniforms, football jerseys, track jerseys or band T-shirt. It may be necessary to further define or amend this guideline as needed. Students are not allowed to wear air-brushed t-shirts or sweatshirts at any time.  The designated school uniform t-shirts can be worn daily.  All other club, organization, athletic, and school spirit shirts can only be worn on Fridays. 

 

Uniform Accessories

Belts The students may choose a coordinating style and color belt. However, the belt must fit into the belt loops of the pants or shorts and must be left buckled at all times. No part of the belt may be hanging at any time. No “tie” belts allowed.

Shoes —All shoes must be closed toe.  No beach, pool or house shoes, “flip flops”, sandals, or crocs.  Velcro straps on shoes must be fastened and shoes that require laces must have laces in them.  Shoes cannot be mismatched.

Socks The student may choose a coordinating style, color and variation of stockings/socks.  Students cannot wear mismatched socks.  Students will be asked to remove socks that are deemed inappropriate or distracting by the administration.

Undershirts A solid white, red, light blue, gray, or navy T-shirt, long sleeve T-shirt, or turtleneck worn under any uniform piece is acceptable at any time. No writing on an undershirt may show through a uniform shirt. Sweatshirts, hoodies, or jackets are not to be worn under uniform shirt. 

Outerwear Only approved coats, jackets, hoodies, and sweaters will be allowed in the school. The larger jackets prove to be a storage problem and are very bulky which makes it extremely easy to hide items in them. Also, keeping such jackets on does not allow proper monitoring of the school uniform policy. Approved outerwear is as follows:

  • Greenacres letter jackets for any activity are always allowed. They may be worn indoors but must remain unbuttoned or unsnapped while indoors.
  • Monogrammed sweatshirts are not allowed.
  • Only approved navy, red, gray, white, or black jackets, sweatshirts, and hooded sweatshirts may be worn inside the building.  Any labeling on the outerwear must not be excessive in size as determined by the administration.  Proper uniform shirts must be worn under jackets, sweatshirts, and hoodies.  Jackets, sweatshirts, and hoodies must be removed or unzipped upon request to ensure proper uniform compliance.
  • The Navy, red, and gray sweatshirt without hood is the only approved sweatshirt which can be worn every day. The Navy sweatshirt may also have Greenacres printed on it.  The sweatshirt must be worn over the school uniform and may be worn inside the building.  Neon colored outerwear, denim, camouflage, and vests of any type are not approved outwear.  Failure to removed these items and any other outwear that does not meet requirements upon the start of the school day will result in a dress code infraction and a possible discipline referral to the office.  These items may also be confiscated by the administration.  GMS staff will not assume responsibility for non-uniform items that are confiscated.  Every attempt will be made to store non-uniform items securely, but GMS will not assume responsibility for non-uniform items that are picked up by a student other than the owner.  Students are encouraged to purchase outwear items that comply with the dress code policy in order to avoid this problem.  
  • No Airline Viking t-shirts, sweatshirts or jackets. Only the approved AHS Foundation shirt is allowed to be worn on designated spirit days.
  • No striped, plaid, or print shirts or outerwear. This includes camouflage clothing of any kind.

 

Uniform Policy

Greenacres Middle School follows a mandatory dress code policy.  To meet dress code requirements, the students must present themselves in the approved uniform.  Uniforms can be purchased from multiple local vendors.  The school administrators will make all final decisions on dress code compliance.  All uniforms must be worn in the manner meant by the manufacturer.  This means that there will be no mutilation of any kind.  Mutilation means tearing, ripping, or cutting of hems, cuffs, sleeves, or body of any of the coordinates.  Cut-off pants, shorts, or skirts are not allowed.  All edges must be hemmed.  The parents may make simple hemming of sleeve length, skirts, skorts, and/or length as long as it follows the dress code guidelines for uniform length.  The uniform must be in the correct size to avoid any sagging.  The student must be present in a neat fashion with no sagging or sloppiness.  Pant legs will not be rolled up.
